Model United Nations
Project OverviewWe spent ten weeks learning about the United Nations and how it worked. We were each given a country to represent (I was given the U.S.), and we had to learn about two international issues from our countries perspective. First we learned about North Korea and their nuclear threats being made, and then we learned about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. For each topic, we had to write a policy paper and a resolution from our countries perspective. Then we finally had our exhibition. It was a UN session with each of us representing our countries. It was at Fort Lewis college, and we discussed the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

Reflection1. What would you tell another student if they asked why the MUN project was important?
This project is important because we learn perspective. We have to write speeches and resolutions from the point of view of a country, instead of your personal opinion. Some of the things that you write you may not agree with yourself, but you have to ignore your own opinion and step into the shoes of another country. 2.Think of this project overall- which habit of heart and mind were you most proud of using during the conference, Perseverance. I was really nervous about giving my speech in front of the rest of the class and all the parents. But I was able to work through it and I think I did good giving my speech. 3.What was the greatest challenge you faced in the project and how did you work through it? I got the flu during this project. I missed almost a week of school and had to catch up when I got back. 4. What was the most interesting speech, comment, resolution, or amendment made by one of the other delegates? Israel's comments. They were completely against all the resolutions that would allow the Palestinians the right of return. It was interesting to here their perspective. |

Brave New World Project
ReflectionDuring this project we worked in pairs to recreate a scene from Brave New World in
graphic novel form. The learning objective I improved the most in was Perspective. I think I was able to portray the scene in a way that would make sense to someone who has not read the book before. The content skill that I improved the most in was definitely revising for clarity. I revised it several times through proofreading, and I also had Matt peer critique my essays for me. One thing that I would improve on next time is using evidence. I didn’t use a lot of evidence in my writing, and that is something that I will need for future projects. My essay and challenge extension!

Mask Project-
Project Reflection
1.What are you most proud of about your mask? Why?
The thing that I am most proud of on my mask is the symbols that I chose to put on my mask. I think that they represent my topic very well. I worked very hard to get them right. I had to do several coats of paint for the lightning!
2.Quote the section of your essay that you are most proud of and describe, in detail, why you are proud of it.
("Tourettes is a distraction disorder and can be very strange to people who do not know or understand it.")
I am most proud of this piece of my essay because I think that this is a great
quote. It took me a long time to find a quote to describe what I was going to say.
3.What will you remember from this project? Why?
I think I will always remember the astonishment that I felt when I realized how
much we have been socialized. I never realized that I am socialized every day to act like a "girl" or a "teenager". This project really opened my eyes to the injustice of stereotypical socialization.
4. Which Habit of Heart and Mind do you need to work on in your next project to get better at Project Based Learning? Why do you need to improve and how that Habit of Heart and Mind will help you?
I need to work on perseverance. While we were working on our project outline, no matter what I did I couldn’t get it. I was about ready to give up on it. This habit will help me on the next project ,because I will know that I can get it
done if I really try.
