Design Your Own Art Project
Class Reflection
I learned several useful skills throughout the course of my sketch up project that I can use in my future career as an aerospace engineer. Using the knowledge that I gained and some of my self taught skills, I will be able to implement 3D modeling into design projects, which could make me a more competitive candidate for jobs in engineering. I also had to have A LOT of patience with this project. It took me two and a half months to finish and there were some very small pieces that took days to finish. That is another skill that will definetly help me in the future.

For this project we had to design a digital art project. I decided to create a 3D model in Photoshop. I did research into medieval castle architecture and features so I could gain an idea of what i wanted my model to look like. First we had to create a pre-assessment to show our skill level before the project began. After the pre-assessment I began work on the castle. Many of the skills that I used were self taught, however I did have to use you tube as a resource for some of the features.
Final Draft
I had no idea what I wanted to do at the beginning of this project. I had minimal experience with sketchup before this project, but it was something I enjoyed very much. I have always loved the fantasy genre, things like Game of Thrones, Merlin, and Narnia. So I thought to myself, “why not make a castle?” I looked at varying types of castles, from Scottish and European Castles, to illustrated fantasy drawings of castles for inspiration. There are aspects of my 3D model that are fantasy inspired, such as the oddly shaped towers at the entrance. Most of the model is based off of more realistic and historical castle architecture and features. During the two months we spent on this project, my patience was tested multiple times. Sketchup is an easy program to use, but also quite aggravating. This project allowed me to really hone my skills in 3D modeling and sketchup, and it was definitely an enjoyable process.
